"context": "Comcast topped both revenue and profit estimates in the fourth quarter as it lost fewer broadband subscribers than expected, and it raised its dividend 7%, the company said Thursday. Here’s how Comcast performed, compared with estimates from analysts surveyed by LSEG, formerly known as Refinitiv. Earnings per share: 84 cents adjusted vs. 79 cents expected Revenue: $31.25 billion vs. $30.51 billion expected For the quarter ended Dec. 31, net income rose 7.8% to $3.26 billion, or 81 cents a share, compared with $3.02 billion, or 70 cents a share, a year earlier. Revenue increased 2.3% compared with the prior-year period. Adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) was flat year over year at about $8 billion. 'For the third consecutive year, we generated the highest revenue, adjusted EBITDA and adjusted EPS in our company’s history', Comcast Chief Executive Officer Brian Roberts said in a statement. 'We also reported the highest adjusted EBITDA on record at Theme Parks; were the #1 studio in worldwide box office for the first time since 2015; and maintained Peacock’s position as the fastest growing streamer in the U.S.'"

The 18-year-old has penned a contract with the Premier League champions until June 2028 but will remain at River Plate until next January before moving to City. Echeverri, who sources told ESPN had also received interest from Barcelona, captained Argentina at the under 17 World Cup last year and starred in their run to the semfinals, where they lost on penalties to Germany. He scored five goals in the U17 World Cup, including a hat trick against Brazil in the quarterfinal, and picked up the Bronze Ball prize as the tournament's third highest scorer. River handed Echeverri his first team debut in June last year and he made an immediate impact, providing an assist in a 3-1 win over Instituto. He has made six first-team appearances in total for the Argentine giants. The deal City have agreed for Echeverri is similar to the arrangement that eventually brought Julián Álvarez to the Etihad."

At the time, my point was that we desperately needed Stewart back in “The Daily Show” host chair because he was the comedic antidote to then-candidate Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. And after Trump won that election, many — including myself — believed that if only Stewart had not abdicated his late-night show in August 2015, Trump might well have been defeated. That is why the news that Stewart is returning to “The Daily Show” in February as an executive producer and a host — even if just one day a week in that latter role — is more than the “Moment of Zen” he treated us to on his show for 16 years. It’s truly a moment of celebration."

"context": "DeepMind, the UK-based AI lab owned by Google’s parent company Alphabet, has developed an AI system called AlphaGeometry that can solve complex geometry problems close to human Olympiad gold medalists. In a new paper in Nature, DeepMind revealed that AlphaGeometry was able to solve 25 out of 30 benchmark geometry problems from past International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) competitions within the standard time limits. This nearly matches the average score of 26 problems solved by human gold medalists on the same tests. The AI system combines a neural language model with a rule-bound deduction engine, providing a synergy that enables the system to find solutions to complex geometry theorems. AlphaGeometry took a revolutionary approach to synthetic data generation by creating one billion random diagrams of geometric objects and deriving relationships between points and lines in each diagram. This process – termed “symbolic deduction and traceback” – resulted in a final training dataset of 100 million unique examples, providing a rich source for training the AI system."

The S&P increased by a minuscule 0.08% but was still able to secure a new all-time closing record. The Nasdaq was led by a broader tech rally and finished the day 0.36% higher. The Dow missed out on the day’s rally and was dragged down by declines of more than 2% in Verizon and 3M, which each reported earnings on Tuesday. Netflix, meanwhile, soared after its Tuesday earnings report and finished the day with gains of more than 10%. Follow live market updates."

The electric vehicle company also warned that vehicle volume growth in 2024 'may be notably lower' than last year’s growth rate. Automotive revenue, meanwhile, increased just 1% from a year earlier, partly because the EVs were selling for less than they had in the past. Tesla implemented steep price cuts in the second half of the year around the world. In a Wednesday presentation, the company warned investors that it’s 'currently between two major growth waves.'"

The Max 9s were grounded weeks ago after a door plug blew out during an Alaska Airlines flight while the plane was 16,000 feet above the ground, leaving a hole in the side of the aircraft. The airline said Thursday morning in a disclosure that it had been expecting to grow its capacity from 3% to 5% this year, but it now expects the growth to be “at or below the lower end of this range.” Alaska Airline’s announcement came on the heels of the Federal Aviation Administration late Wednesday clearing a path for the planes to return to service but halting Boeing’s plans to increase production of them."

Perhaps it’s no wonder, then, that media company Time Out has named New York City as its best city for 2024. Time Out surveyed some 20,000 city-dwellers across the world, alongside its network of global writers and editors, to compile its latest round-up of the best cities in the globe. New York City’s myriad of museums and its thriving theater scene were namechecked by Time Out as reasons why the US city clinched the top spot. NYC’s global reputation also played a role – the city was ranked as the place other global city-dwellers would most like to relocate to. At number two on Time Out’s list is Cape Town, South Africa, a city ranked, according to Time Out, by 'every single survey respondent' as “beautiful,” thanks no doubt to its stunning combination of sea, cityscape and spectacular mountainous surroundings. Time Out specifically shouted out Cape Town’s cultural offerings – from its late night museum evenings over the summer months to its theater and comedy offerings at Theatre on the Bay, as well as the newly opened Time Out Market Cape Town."

Britain’s media has reacted with fury and bewilderment after a US scientist claimed the perfect cup of tea is made with a pinch of added salt. Michelle Francl, who has written a book on the molecular science behind a good cuppa, believes the addition is needed to reduce the bitterness of the drink."

The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 195.12 points, or 0.76%, to close at 31,419.58. The S&P 500 added 1.59% at 4,008.50. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite rose 1.35%, closing at 12,299.68. The U.S. economy added 438,000 jobs in August, the Labor Department said. Economists polled by Dow Jones expected 273,000 jobs. However, wages rose less than expected last month. Stocks posted a stunning turnaround on Friday, after initially falling on the stronger-than-expected jobs report. "

But she is in great hands and will have lots of care and support at home and is a fit young woman,” a source close to the royal household tells PEOPLE exclusively in this week’s issue. “I am sure she will bounce back.” The Princess of Wales, 42, is embarking on a long recovery after having “planned abdominal surgery” at the private London Clinic on Jan. 16, which was announced by Kensington Palace the following day. The statement said that Princess Kate would remain hospitalized for “10 to 14 days, before returning home to continue her recovery” and that it would be unlikely for her to “return to public duties until after Easter.”"
