replies way too long

idk If It's because of the training on this model, but it gives weird replies. like in the middle, it will input an assistant and user reply. it literally says assistant and user, then gives nonsense between them. also it writes so much in the reply, it's like if It's trying to write a novel. i have it on instruct and the prompt to specifically give short replies as only one character. then it goes on to reply as everyone and then introduce more characters. I have checked all the settings and have messed with them up and down and have had no luck.
